lighting designer at teatro alla scala milan

lighting designer and lighting specialist with extensive experience in theatre, live performance and cultural events. son of the painter gilberto filibeck, he began his career as a lighting operator for vasco rossi’s concerts between 1979 and 1984, also collaborating with artists such as enzo jannacci and loredana bertè. after graduating as a theatre technician at the teatro comunale di bologna, he joined teatro alla scala in milan in 1985, where he became lighting supervisor in 1996 and, from 2009, resident lighting designer and head of the lighting department until 2022.
throughout his career he has worked with leading italian and international directors, including franco zeffirelli, luca ronconi, liliana cavani, gabriele salvatores and àlex ollé. he has designed lighting for numerous productions and major events, including the roberto bolle & friends ballet productions in some of the most renowned italian archaeological sites, from the colosseum to the baths of caracalla, from the valley of the temples to the greek theatre of taormina, as well as the arena di verona and major italian squares.
alongside theatre, he develops lighting projects for exhibitions, art, fashion and exhibition spaces, collaborating with international institutions and brands such as dolce & gabbana and creating projects for museums, showrooms and installations. among these is the new lighting design for the teatro alla scala museum.
in 2018 he received the franco abbiati award for the lighting of the production hänsel und gretel. in 2023 the monograph marco filibeck lighting designer was published. in 2025 he received the lifetime achievement lighting award from aidi, the italian lighting association.
