architect, currently active between tokyo and barcelona, he develops projects in various cities around the world. the jvad studio works in architecture, urban planning and interior design, while the collaborative platform oca projects develops neo-craft design projects, creating relationships with artisans and masters from different disciplines.

he has been a partner of the japanese studio kengo kuma & associates, with whom he has collaborated for over twenty years, and of the barcelona-based studio cloud 9. among the architectural projects he has directed are the princesa leonor pedestrian bridge in seville, the grand morillon student residences in geneva, the multifunctional complex shipyard 1862 in shanghai, the artlab cultural center at epfl university in lausanne and the new vera bridge over the guadalquivir river in seville.

in the field of interior design, he has led significant projects such as the new staircase and atrium system for casa batlló by antoni gaudí in barcelona, a unesco world heritage building, as well as commercial projects such as camper stores in barcelona, milan, paris and munich and the award-winning restaurant endo at rotunda in london.

he has collaborated with brands such as viabizzuno for the design of lighting fixtures and with nicoichi for the design of handcrafted lacquer objects. javier regularly shares his experience in architecture and design through lectures and talks at universities and conferences in europe and asia.
