philosopher, art historian, and professor at the université paris 1 panthéon-sorbonne
philosopher and art historian. he studied philosophy and art history in bonn, paris, rome and freiburg (germany). from 2003 to 2005 he was professor of art theory at the university of aix-marseille. since 2005 he has been professor of philosophy of art at paris 1 panthéon-sorbonne university. between 2013 and 2018 he was visiting professor at the university of dresden, where he developed an intense collaboration with the city’s museums, promoting conferences, exhibitions and scientific activities.
bruno haas developed the method of functional deixis, an approach dedicated to the analysis of singular objects such as painting, music and poetry, with applications also in the field of sculpture and architecture. the method combines a technique of empirical observation with new ways of formalizing results.

alongside his academic activity, he also pursues artistic research in the field of graphic art and painting. three of his large-scale works are held at the museum folkwang in essen (germany): triptychon (1994–1995), fast (1997), 5 (2003–2005).
