the school

marionannischolé is the first school dedicated to lighting design. here, light is at the center of education: it is a subject of study, a design matter and an educational principle.

training takes place through a path that integrates humanistic, technical-scientific and artisanal knowledge. theory, laboratory, research and experimentation come together in a method rooted in the tradition of workshops and open to innovation, to train the future scrittoridellaluce.

museovirgola

bologna, via santo stefano 94

2.500 sqm in the historic center. classrooms, laboratories, original works. a space where art and education coexist. you study surrounded by objects that have a history and that show, concretely, what it means to design light.

bentivoglio

5.000 sqm between workshop, modeling and research. here the design becomes physical. prototypes are built, work with materials, observe how light reacts to surfaces, volumes, shadows. it is the practical heart of training.

the faculty

marionannischolé was born from an international network of relationships built over time around the work and thought of marionanni, bringing together designers, architects, artists, musicians, technicians and scholars. a living heritage of shared skills and visions that nourishes collaborations, teaching and research activities between culture, art and design.

openness to the international academic and professional world is at the heart of its identity: creating connections between generations, cultures and disciplines to shape a new education in light and design.

the founder

marionanni artist, poet, scrittoredellaluce. in 1994 he founded viabizzuno, which he led until 2022.

for more than fifty years he has designed light by integrating technique, aesthetics, philosophy and poetry. among others, he has collaborated with david chipperfield, kengo kuma, john pawson and peter zumthor.

he illuminated michelangelo’s moses in rome, the medici tombs in florence and casa batlló in barcelona.

he created poems of light for teatro alla scala in milan. in 2024 he received the compasso d’oro for the lamp figaroqua figarolà, designed together with architect paolo rizzatto.

in 2025 he created the fondazionemarionanni, a non-profit organization from which marionannischolé was born.

future job opportunities

at the end of the program, participants receive a certificate attesting the completion of an advanced educational path in the field of interdisciplinary design and light research. the certificate confirms the acquisition of technical and methodological skills applicable in areas such as architecture, design, lighting design and visual arts, providing tools for an innovative and critical approach to design.

the educational program, characterized by a strong orientation toward experimentation and multidisciplinarity, prepares participants to face complex scenarios, with particular attention to the integration of technology, material and the language of light.

marionanni studio, founded by maestro marionanni, represents a concrete example of what a scrittoredellaluce can become in the contemporary professional world. through an approach that combines research, light culture, interdisciplinary design and experimentation, the studio has collaborated on lighting projects with major international practices such as david chipperfield architects, studio arup and paolo rizzatto, working with important clients including louis vuitton, dries van noten, fai, and architectural masterpieces such as casa batlló and the alhambra.

these experiences demonstrate how there is an increasing demand today for professionals capable of integrating light, space, material, technique and emotion within the design process. the scrittoredellaluce emerges precisely from this vision: a transversal professional able to collaborate with architects, designers, artists, companies and cultural institutions in a wide range of complex contexts.

the program prepares professionals capable of working successfully in the following fields:

  • architecture studios
  • lighting design studios
  • product design
  • the world of art as progettistauniversale
  • luxury and retail brands
  • scenography, exhibition and event design
  • freelance professional practice

at the end of the educational programs, for students who request it, fondazionemarionanni is committed to supporting entry into the professional world through extracurricular internships and collaborations with active companies and institutions in the sector, offering a direct bridge between avant-garde education and professional practice.

scholarships

the school, through fondazionemarionanni and within the framework of its educational and cultural mission, offers scholarships aimed at making its educational programs more accessible and at supporting students who demonstrate commitment, talent and motivation.

through these opportunities, the foundation seeks to encourage the personal and professional growth of participants, promote excellence and enhance merit, within a perspective of inclusion and social responsibility.
